How to fit a large amount of text into your PowerPoint Template

In this article you will find 5 ways you can fit long text into your PowerPoint template placeholders.

The issue with Text placeholders

Most PowerPoint Templates provide a placeholder box for text. But when trying to enter your content into a template, you may find that the text overflows. It just doesn’t fit into the space already provided.

Let’s see how to deal with this issue with an example. Here is an example slide that we will try to make over :

When you copy long sentences or bullet lists into the placeholder text boxes, you may find that it doesn’t fit into the space provided. Here is what happened when we just copy-pasted the content of the example slide into the template:

How do you ensure that the template works for you in such cases? Here are 5 ways in which you can adjust your PowerPoint Templates :

5 Ways To Adjust Template Text Boxes

1. Extend The Text box

Each placeholder box has a boundary. You can drag the corners of the text box to increase its size. This will ensure that more text fits into the text box.

2. Reduce Font Size

The templates usually use font size 24 for text. You can change the font size to 22px or 20px to reduce the font size.

3. Change the Font Style 

There are fonts that are narrower in width and use less space. You will find them names as ‘Arial Narrow’  or  ‘Archivo Narrow’ etc.

You can select all the text boxes in the slide and change the font style like this:

4. Revise the original text

Sometimes the original text is copied from a document or a long-ish bullet point sentence. In such cases, revising can reduce the amount of text.

5.  Add Additional Text Boxes

If you have a lot more text to be added to the slide, you can copy or duplicate (Shortcut : Ctrl + D) an existing text box. Then add in your text into the new box!
