We definitely didn't use Photoshop to achieve the result. In this article, we will show you how to create the same effect by combining any two pictures in PowerPoint.

Trick behind the merge:

The secret behind merging images is increasing the transparency levels of one of the images and placing it on top of another image. Although earlier versions of PowerPoint didn't allow you to adjust the transparency levels of pictures, we will provide a simple workaround to get the desired result. Let's take a look at the process step-by-step.

Step 1: Insert a picture in PowerPoint:

This will serve as the foundation image upon which we will layer the second image with the desired effect.

Step 2: Workaround step

Draw a rectangle that covers the entire image from end to end. Remove the shape outline.

Step 3: Insert the second image

Select the image and navigate to the 'Shape Fill' option. From the drop-down menu, choose the 'Fill Picture' option and select the image you wish to superimpose on the first image.

Right-click on the new image and go to the Format Shape option. In the Fill option, select Transparency and adjust the transparency level until you can see the underlying image. When you are satisfied with the result, you are finished.

*Note for PowerPoint 365 Users

If you have PowerPoint 365 installed, you can bypass Step 2 and directly add the second image to your slide. You can adjust the picture's transparency by navigating to the Picture Format tab and selecting the Transparency option.

Here is a variation of the image:

You can leverage this effect to craft a compelling PowerPoint concept by combining pertinent visuals. For instance, take a look at the following merged image:

The technique is also useful for adding textures to images. For example, here is a handmade paper texture effect that can be used as a background for your slides. This effect can add a unique and professional touch to your presentation, making it stand out from the rest.

Hand Drawn Texture

You can also utilize the built-in texture fill options under the Fill Shape tab to create unique effects. For example, take a look at this crumpled photo effect created using a texture fill.

Even though you cannot directly increase the transparency of images in earlier versions of PowerPoint, you can work around this limitation by drawing a shape and filling it with the desired picture. By adjusting the transparency levels of the shape fill, you can achieve the desired result.
