Easy gear graphicThis is a rough and ready graphic created with minimum fuss. Above all, it is a simple demonstration of using the basic tools in PowerPoint in creative ways. Let us start creating the graphic from scratch.

Step 1: Draw a circle

Go to auto shapes menu and select the ‘oval’ tool. Draw a perfect circle while holding the ‘Shift’ tab and remove the fill.

Right click on the circle and go to ‘Format shape’ option. Make the line color –black. Go to ‘Line style‘. Change the width to 25 pt. Change the Cap type to ‘Round dot’. This is result…

Change Gear Line PropertyIf you observe closely, the teeth of the gear are not evenly distributed on the left side. To change this, go to ‘Format’ tab in PowerPoint ribbon. Go to ‘Edit shape’ -> Change shape -> Arc. Complete the circular arc as shown below. This ensures that the teeth of the gear are equidistant:

Fill Gear centerDraw another circle to fit the inside of the gear. Fill it with ‘white’ color and add ‘inner shadow’ as shown below:
