The diagram is quite easy to create. In this article, we will show you the steps.
Step 1: Create the steps
The first step in creating any layout is to write the title. Many times presenters make the mistake of adding the title after laying out the elements on the slide – almost as an afterthought. This naturally makes them want to move the position of the title or to reduce the font size of the title to fit with the rest of the elements on the slide. Thus, they lose consistency in the look and feel of their slide deck.
Once you finish entering the title, go to Auto shapes menu and pick the rectangle tool to draw a rectangle. Make copies of the rectangle and arrange them as steps as shown below:
These rectangles would also double up as title boxes for our staircase diagram. Since we want all the steps to have an identical size, make your typical rectangle to accommodate the longest title text.
You can apply ‘quick style’ option to the rectangles. If you want to differentiate the steps you can choose different colors for your steps:
Make sure that the height and width of the pentagon and chevrons are identical.
Step 2: Create the text boxes
The next step is to create the staircase diagram in PowerPoint is to draw the text boxes that serve to explain the titles. Use the rectangle tool to draw the boxes as shown below:
Remove the outline and color them in lighter hue of the title boxes. This helps the readers to associate the explanation with the title easily, while differentiating the individual text boxes:
The last step is to enter relevant text in the boxes:

When you fill the steps in different colors, you can continue the color code to indicate the different steps of the process in the later slides.
The alternative is to keep the color scheme fairly consistent across the steps and use a contrasting color to draw attention to a certain step in the process as shown below:
